Dr Mayne, Dr. Coleman, Dr. Rains
Dr. Malone is the newest addition to our hospital, having joined us as a full time veterinarian in June of 2021 after graduating from Western University.
You may already recognize Dr. Malone prior to this time as she also worked with us for the past three years while she was attending veterinary school. She and her family enjoyed the mountains so much that they decided to make our community their home since 2019. Our mountain community has quickly become a true home for her and she looks forward to developing long-term relationships with our clients and to work with them to provide the best possible care for the pets they love.
As a child, Dr. Malone dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. At a young age she understood the loving bond that animals could hold in our hearts and wanted to achieve the ability to help others better understand their furry family members.
Dr. Malone is a Rancho Cucamonga native and graduate of Los Osos High School. In high school she excelled in volleyball which helped her earn a scholarship to study at UC Riverside. Dr. Malone holds a B.A. in Global Studies from UC Riverside, a B.S. in Biology from the University of La Verne, and earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Western University in May 2021.
OUR VETERINARIANS
Helping you care for your best friend!
Dr. Rains is semi-retired but is still occasionally working (to help Dr. Coleman have a day off every once in a while).
Dr. Rains was born and raised in Southern California. He attended Claremont High School and served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. Following his discharge, he attended Oklahoma State University, earning his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1975.
After graduation, he returned to So. California, joining a small animal practice in Chino for two years and then also worked for a year at an emergency clinic in Montclair. In 1979 he purchased Arrowhead Veterinary Hospital and moved with his family to the mountains. Dr. Rains is proud to say he has spent half his life on the mountains. His sons are graduates of Rim High School.
An active participant in the community, Dr. Rains has been a member of the local Rotary Club for 33 years, serving as president in 2008. In 2010 he and his wife, Jo Bonita, were honored as Lake Arrowhead's citizens of the Year.

Prior to becoming a veterinarian Dr. Coleman completed his Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and then due to an interest in math went to graduate school in engineering completing both his MS and his PhD in chemical (electrochemical) engineering. After graduate school, he worked as a software development consultant teaching software development to businesses around the country (with some short stints teaching in a couple of other countries as well). While software development, engineering, and teaching were enjoyable and are still interests of Dr. Coleman, becoming a veterinarian was always in the back of his mind. So in 2002 Dr. Coleman went back to school to become veterinarian.
Dr. Coleman obtained his DVM degree in 2006 from Texas A&M University. After graduating veterinary school, he completed a 1 year rotating internship at a specialty and emergency hospital in Sacramento. After completing this internship, he practiced in Northern California and Texas before moving back to California and our San Bernardino Mountains in 2012. His interests include both general practice and emergency medicine.
In his off time Dr. Coleman enjoys spending time with his wife and son and 4 dogs, and hiking and enjoying all the outdoors here have to offer.
